Modernist Painters

June 11, 2014

Modernism gained great momentum in the late 19th and early 20th century with many artists embracing the movement's characterictics of dynamic experimentation and departure from traditional ideas of art.  One such artist was Dorcas Doolittle, a Pennsylvania artist who, like many other Modernists, had been traditionally trained yet found a great freedom when embracing the new movement.

Included in this online exhibition are a group of Doolittle's exciting paintings and some fine works by other Modernist artists that our gallery has to offer.  You will find a wonderful variety of style, color, subject matter, and general tone as these talented artists explored new ideas and shed previous conventions.  Please enjoy the paintings, and don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions!
