Whiteman, Samuel Edwin
1860-1922

Born in Philadelphia in 1860, Samuel Edwin Whiteman was an acclaimed landscape painter. He studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris is Boulanger, Constant, and Lefebvre. In 1881, he was awarded a prize in the Paris Exposition.

Upon his return to the United States, Whiteman settled in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the director of and taught in the Charcoal Club for twenty-five years. He also taught at Johns Hopkins University.

Samuel Edwin Whiteman died in Baltimore in 1922.
