Foss, Oliver
1920-?

Foss was born in Paris, of American parents, on October 17, 1920.  The son of a painter and a Professor of Philosophy at Haverford, Pennsylvania, Foss studied with his mother, Hilda Foss, a well known Painter, as well as Ecol des Beaux-Arts in Paris France. He also studied in Switzerland and the United States and continued to live and paint in Paris for the rest of his career. 

Foss has exhibited in the finest galleries in France, United States, South America, and Belgium.  His work has also been acquired by the State of France, and the Museums of St. Louis, Milwaukee, and Baltimore.  He also participated in the Paris Salons and in the Ecole de Paris exhibitions at the Galerie Charpentier.

He has received numerous awards, including a medal from the City of Paris - the Laureate of the Artistes Francais; First Prize at Monte Carlo; and is a Societaire of the Salon des Independants and the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts.  Foss has won prizes at the Salon d'Automne, the Salon d'Hiver, and the Illinois Festival of Arts.
