Bigelow, Chandler

Chandler Bigelow was born and raised in the Boston area.  His interest in art began at an early age, leading him to study art history and painting at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduation he studied with the Boston based portrait painter, Robert Cormier, and later developed an impressionist style.  His first exhibition of paintings was in 1962 on St. Mark's Place in the East Village of New York City.  

In the late sixties, Bigelow began to regularly show his paintings of winter scenes at the Wickersham Gallery on Madison Avenue. Through the seventies and eighties he participated in group exhibitions in the Doll & Richards Gallery in Boston.  Once established, Bigelow was able to maintain a loft-studio in Chelsea as well as one in Water Mill, New York.  Later Bigelow moved to New Jersey and was influenced by the beautiful countryside, he traveled finding inspiration in the Colorado landscape. 

Bigelow has exhibited his work in Easthampton, NY, Chicago, Illinois and New York City.  Recently he has shown paintings at The Grace Gallery of Fine Arts in Morristown, New Jersey, Woodstock Folk Art and Antiquities Gallery in Woodstock, Vermont.
