Altamirano, Arturo Pacheco

Altamirano, a self-taught artist, was born on April 24, 1905 in Chile.

Yielding happily to the irresistible call of the sea, he has captured on canvas the Chilean sea, its ports, coves and beaches.

Along with his deep feeling for light and color, he fills his works with exciting compositions and a sense of movement.  Characterizing his work is a pictorial purity that reveals his sincere understanding for the marine environment.  He brings to his canvas its chill mornings and sun-drenched afternoons.

Among his many awards are First Medal at the National Salon of Fine Arts in Santiago; First Medal at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chile; and a First Medal at the Salon Vina del Mar.

Altamirano's works are to be found in the principal museums of Chile and in the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, as well as in numerous private collections.
