Dawson, Montague
1895-1973

One of the leading marine artists of the twentieth century, English-born Montague Dawson began his education under the tutelage of the celebrated artist C. Napier Hemy, R.A. Under Hemy’s influence, Dawson learned to love the sea and its many moods.  Dawson captured the drama and excitement of the high seas and to this he added his expertise in the rendering of ships.  The artist handled raging storms and glassy calm with equal skill.

Dawson’s work has been exhibited in major galleries throughout the United States and Great Britain.  The artist died in 1973.
