Harris, Julieanne

Julieanne Harris was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1953.  She began her formal art studies at the Julian Ashton Art School.  During her first year of study, she won the Basil and Muriel Hooper Scholarship, awarded by the New South Wales Art Gallery to selected promising students.  Harris also studied for several years under the tutelage of Joshua Smith and Graeme Inson, two of Australia’s leading portrait painters.

In 1983, she moved to California, and subsequently taught portraiture at the Pacific Art League and the Community Art Center, both in Palo Alto.  In 1986, Harris moved to the East Coast, taking classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and at the Art Students League in New York City with Daniel Greene, Nelson Shanks, and David Leffel.

She has completed many commissioned portraits and still life paintings, which hang in private collections in Australia, South Africa, Germany, and the United States.
